SUMMARY:Knox Farm 3 Course Classic Meet
DESCRIPTION:A return of the twisted orange three course event. This regular orienteering event is designed for all experience levels\, and for walkers\, runners\, and family groups. The start will be by the fenced area just south of the parking area. \nThe three courses:  a Casual White course (1:7500) for beginners\, a Mellow Yellow course (1:10000)\, and a Twisted Orange course (1:10000). The time limit is three hours. \nOnline pre-registration is required. To register go here.  There will be limited registration on site. The registration deadline is Thursday\, July 17\, at 10:00 pm. \n(Note: Each member of a group must register and sign the waiver. We recommend that a group leader complete the registration for all group members.) \nAll individuals and groups are welcome. Contact the event director if your group is larger than 4 people. DESCRIPTION:Emery Park\, Shelter No. 2\, North side of Emery Rd. \nThis regular orienteering event is designed for all experience levels\, and for walkers\, runners\, and family groups. \nThere will be an opportunity to learn how to do orienteering prior to this event. From 10:00 am until 11:00 am there will be a Learn & Practice Event. This event will take approximately 20 minutes and will involve small group instruction with an experienced orienteer followed by guided practice on a three control course. If you are interested in this opportunity you can specify your interest when registering for this meet. \nThree courses will be available. The three courses: a short 1.6 kilometer (1 mile) “white” course for beginners\, an intermediate 3 kilometer (1.9 mile) “Yellow” course\, and a more difficult 5.2 kilometer (3.2 mile) “orange” course. SUMMARY:2024 Cherry Blossom Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Saturday\, April 27 for this casual and fun celebration of spring in conjunction with the Buffalo Cherry Blossom Festival. This event is designed for all experience levels and for walkers\, runners\, and family groups. \nUse the map (which we provide) to navigate a 3.7 kilometer (2.3 mile) course which traverses the Hoyt and Mirror Lake parts of Delaware Park. The course features easy to locate checkpoints. Alternately\, select a “Score-O” version in which you choose which points you want to visit. The time limit for the Point to Point course is 90 minutes and the time limit for the Score-O is 60 minutes. \nOnline pre-registration is strongly encouraged and is the only way to guarantee we will have a map for you. (We will also print a few maps for “day-of” registrations.) The registration deadline is Thursday\, April 25 at 11:00 PM. DESCRIPTION:This event is the first in the newly mapped Burmaster Park (Bond Lake) which is in the Niagara Region and the Niagara Escarpment.  This is a one hour score-O with fifteen controls located both north and south of Lower Mountain Rd in Ransomville\, NY. Participants are allowed to use skis\, snowshoes\, or regular boots or shoes. Check-in starts at 11:30 AM to pick up map and materials. Check-in located at the sled hill parking lot on the north side of Lower Mountain Rd. There will be a mass start at 12:00 Noon. Be sure to check in at the finish even if you decide not to complete the event. \nOnline registration is now open. \nIf you are interested in renting snowshoes for the event\, options are listed below. Quantities are limited so you might want to make arrangements in advance. You can reserve snowshoes by calling the stores or\, in the case of Campus Wheelworks and Gear for Adventure\, use online rental systems on their websites. The going rate seems to be about $20 a day. After learning the basics\, participants will accompany the instructor on a guided walk to practice the skills. When they return to the starting point\, they will be able to participate in the white (beginner) course at the orienteering meet. People may do the white course on their own or with a partner. The fee that participants pay for the event will get them into the Learn & Practice for no extra charge. SUMMARY:Cherry Blossom Challenge
DESCRIPTION:A fun orienteering event celebrating spring in one of Buffalo’s renowned Olmsted parks.  A choice of three courses around Delaware Park including the History Museum\, Hoyt Lake\, Marcy Casino\, Rose Garden\, Rumsey Woods\, Mirror Lake and the Japanese Garden. All courses are easy in terms of difficulty. The only difference is the length: Easy Short is 2.6 km. Easy Medium is 3.1 km\, Easy Long is 4.4 km. \nRegister and start at 11:00 am near the Buffalo History Museum on Nottingham Terrace near Elmwood Avenue.
